A constant coming and going, night and day. Foreigners, prostitutes, drug dealers and strangers of various kinds who, from the Ducal Gardens, enter directly into the building. Continuous thefts in the garages which, often, become uncontrolled storage for stolen bicycles and drug dealing. The residents of the ‘big building’ on Via Muzzioli are exhausted where, for over a year, they have been reporting a situation of extreme degradation and danger. A situation that is mostly linked to the arrival, in the condominium, of a resident who is allegedly using the building and her apartment for various illicit trafficking. Over the months, a series of complaints have been filed with the police and a letter will soon be delivered to the mayor with a related collection of signatures from exasperated tenants who are asking for immediate solutions. The administrator of the Condominio Giardino on Via Muzzioli, lawyer Corrado De Robertis, is the spokesperson for the worrying situation.

“Since the summer of last year, at least five complaints have been filed but the situation shows no signs of improving. On June 2, the Carabinieri arrived and opened some cellars where stolen bicycles were kept, but nothing has changed,” he stresses. In one of the garages, moreover, traces of drug use are clearly visible. “The condominium has become a fixed base for prostitutes and for many clients, who are often directly opened by the lady who allegedly allowed all this to happen. She lives with a family of foreigners about whom we know nothing; yet there is an obligation to provide the identity of foreigners to the competent authorities,” he continues. “She gives the keys to the building to anyone and I asked for the condominium registry because we still haven’t figured out who lives in her apartment. The situation,” the lawyer stresses, “has been going on for at least two years and is getting worse. One morning, from three to seven, so in the space of four hours we counted the arrival of ten people: all the drug dealers of the Gardens frequent this place on a daily basis and this lady directly welcomes the customers, whether they are those of the drug dealers or the prostitutes. In addition – she reiterates – she lets in other prostitutes who ‘work’ directly in the cellars. Often people arrive who appear visibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol: the situation is risky for everyone now”. In the complaints filed it is noted that screams and loud noises also come from the place, violent acts in general and yet in that very apartment there are also minors living. “We believe that the situation is now unsustainable – concludes De Robertis – and we do not want it to degenerate. We are no longer able to control access: many of these people have their own keys and we ask the authorities to intervene”.
