The long wait for the relaunch of the Metrò del Mare, the crucial maritime connection service for Cilento, has undergone a further delay. Initially scheduled for July 1, the start of operations has been postponed, probably until the middle of next month, pending the outcome of the tender procedure. Currently, the only valid offer is the one presented by Alicost, already known for its past service in this area.

Alicost formulated the offer for “lot 1”, including the two key lines that cross the Cilento side: the connection between Salerno and Cilento, and the one between the Amalfi Coast and Cilento. The documentation presented is currently under examination by the tender commission, which has diligently conducted all the necessary administrative checks.

Line 1 of the Metrò del Mare will connect the ports of Agropoli, San Marco di Castellabate, Acciaroli, Casal Velino, Pisciotta, Palinuro and Camerota during weekends, promising an essential connection for residents and tourists. Meanwhile, Line 2 will operate Monday to Friday, connecting Salerno, Amalfi and Positano with Agropoli and San Marco di Castellabate, facilitating transport along the picturesque Amalfi Coast.

Despite the delay in the start of operations, the wait continues to see the Metrò del Mare return to operation, significantly improving accessibility and maritime connectivity between these important destinations in Campania.

Gigi Vicinanza, secretary of Filp Cisal Salerno, expressed strong criticism regarding these delays. Vicinanza said:

“This latest delay is a disgrace and a missed opportunity to decongest traffic towards Cilento. It is unacceptable that, once again, we remain stuck in bureaucratic waits that harm not only residents, but also tourism and the local economy. Every summer, thousands of tourists flock to our coasts, and the lack of an efficient maritime transport service exacerbates traffic and pollution problems. The Metrò del Mare is not only a convenient option, but a necessity for the sustainability of traffic in the area south of Salerno,” he said. “What makes the situation even more frustrating is that solutions are within reach. Alicost has already demonstrated that it can provide a reliable and quality service, yet we continue to find ourselves bogged down in administrative delays. It is time for the competent authorities to acknowledge the urgency of the situation and speed up the procedures necessary to make the service operational as quickly as possible. Our region deserves better. Citizens and tourists deserve better. We will continue to monitor the situation and push for this important service to finally be activated without further delay. It is a question of respect for our territory and for those who live and visit it every day.”
