No one responsible for the death of Alessandro Landithe 36-year-old from Salerno who died between Christmas and Boxing Day 2017 in the city penitentiary.

This, at least, is the thesis of the public prosecutor who, yesterday, at the end of the first degree trial before Judge Diograzia, asked for absolution for the two doctors on duty at Gaia Busato prison33 years old from Battipaglia and Nicola Campitiello 33 years old from Pagani who, assisted by the lawyers Tullio Toriello and Alfonso Maiese, are charged with manslaughter for not having arranged for the hospitalization of the young gas station attendant from Matierno “despite the presence – wrote the prosecutor in the notice of conclusion of the investigation – of a symptomatology also in the past, such as intense and persistent chest pain and jaw constriction, indicative of a possible heart disease”. In the opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office, it cannot be demonstrated that timely hospitalization could have prevented the prisoner’s death.

After the discussions of the civil party’s lawyer, the lawyer Agostino Allegro which protects the man’s wife, mother of a boy who is now 18 years old, the hearing was adjourned until next autumn for the sentence. Alessandro Landi was jailed in September 2016 as part of the blitz of the anti-mafia “Italo” which, through the issuance of 62 precautionary measures, defeated five criminal groups dedicated to robberies and drug dealing between Salerno and the Sele plain. Landi was charged with exploitation of prostitution aggravated by the state of need of the victim dependent on narcotics.
