The TMB plant of Sicula Trasporti of Catania will be able to continue to remain open for the treatment of waste and its subsequent forwarding to other landfills or energy recovery plants, even outside of Sicily. This is provided for by the new ordinance, proposed by the regional Energy department and adopted by the President of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani on an extraordinary and emergency basis to overcome the waste storage limits imposed for safety reasons by the fire brigade. Following the positive opinions of Arpa, Asp, Cts, the Metropolitan City and Municipality of Catania and the regional Department of the Environment, the temporary continuation of the treatment for both dry and wet waste, coming from approximately 200 Municipalities, has been authorized.

Schifani’s provision It was issued to prevent a state of environmental and health and hygiene emergency, pending the release by the regional “Water and Waste” department of the new Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) for the plants in the Codavolpe district, according to the requirements of the Regional Specialist Technical Commission.
