MODENA – Housing impossible to find and rents too high, tomorrow 32 State Police officers who work in the Modena area will leave: they have not been able to find a house with an adequate rent, reports the Siulp union.
Until a few years ago, most of the police officers who arrived in Modena fresh from their courses, and then grew professionally here, never left the area, if they could: they moved their lives here, they thought about their future here, thanks to a welcoming province, with a dynamic economy, quality schools and adequate services. Now it is no longer like that: those who arrive mostly leave as soon as they get a transfer, one or two years later, just enough time to learn the job. Not because the area is no longer as attractive as it once was, but because it is increasingly difficult for young men and women in uniform to find a reasonable rent. A problem that does not only concern the police, but on which the Siulp union is now raising the alarm, because on July 1st there are 32 officers who will leave after having obtained a transfer, and who will all be replaced, but by boys and girls who have just graduated from police schools. And this, Siulp says, despite the fact that in the city of Modena there are currently 12 thousand vacant apartments.
