The “Threshing Festival”, organized by the Agro Isola Sacra Cultural Association, will continue until Sunday 30 Junenear Largo dei Bonificatori in Isola Sacra.
The festival, now in its eleventh edition, is dedicated to valorising the origins and peasant traditions of the Sacred Island and its historic reclaimers who have allowed the territory to characterize itself and define itself through agricultural development and the memory of the past.
In the program of initiatives planned for the Festival, further a delicious kitchen set up by the Association’s volunteers with a meat-based menu and typical peasant cuisinewith bread and fried pizzas and a craft market, children will also have the opportunity to have fun with face painting and on Sunday afternoon with the craft bread workshop.
In retracing the ancient peasant traditions, the highlight of the festival is the moment in whichThe sound of the siren, in the late afternoon, starts the threshing, made according to ancient peasant methods and with the original machinery of the time, with a thresher from the 1930s, used until the 1960s for the operations of separating the cereal grains from the shells of the ear, which constitute the chaff, which remains separated from both the grain and the straw. For farmers, threshing has always been a moment of celebration in which to rejoice at the end of the harvest with songs and dances, which, together with good wine and tasty food, accompanied the exhausting physical work, which began at dawn and continued until sunset. .
Among the initiatives planned during the “Threshing Festival” on the day of Saturday 29 June at 6.00 pm there will be the religious procession, which will start from the church of Divine Providenceaccompanied by the “Banda Giuseppe Verdi” of Tolfa, followed by the holy mass at Piazza dei Bonificatori. In the evening, music, liscio and country dances. On Sunday afternoon, at 6:00 pm, the parade of vintage cars and motorcycles is scheduled.
In the context of the festival, the Association, in collaboration with the “Photographic Experiences Group”, also organised a photography competition where participants were invited to immortalise the most beautiful images of the harvest and threshing for themin order to have a photographic reportage of cultural and historical memory.
