The increase of Tari in Marsala. Councilors against the mayor: “Yet another mockery”

A group of Marsala city councilors have forcefully expressed their indignation towards Mayor Grillo, accusing him of having imposed an increase in the waste tax without even attending the council meeting in which the resolution was discussed. The letter, signed by councilors Nicola Fici, Vito Milazzo, Eleonora Milazzo, Flavio Coppola, Elia Martinico and Gaspare Di Girolamo, highlights a series of problems related to the administrative and financial management of the city.

“Yesterday we witnessed yet another mockery by Mayor Grillo, who brought the resolution to increase the waste tax to the City Council without even attending the council meeting”, we read in the letter. The councilors denounce the lack of transparency and dialogue on the part of the mayor, underlining that in 2022 the Mayor boasted of the reduction of the same tax, obtained thanks to state contributions for the Covid emergency, but omitting this detail to the citizens.

This year, “the administration presented the resolution only on the last day available for approval, making it impossible for the City Council to propose changes and avoiding political debate. In response to this situation, the signatory councilors abstained from voting, while acknowledging the commitment of the Budget Councilor, Salvatore Agate, in accepting their request to find financial tools in the 2024 budget that would allow a reduction in the tax for families in difficulty.”

“Our abstention is due to the hope that Councilor Agate will be able to identify solutions to alleviate the economic burden on families in Marsala who cannot support the further increase in the waste tax”, explain the councilors. The letter ends with an appeal to the Mayor so that, “rather than allocate economic resources to postponable events, he implements concrete measures to contain the economic worsening of families”.
