Drought in Reggio Calabria: rotation to ensure water for all

The severe drought in Reggio Calabria has forced Sorical to adopt extraordinary measures to guarantee drinking water supply in all the city’s neighborhoods.

The severe drought that is affecting the Ionian belt of the Province of Reggio Calabria has forced Sorical (Calabrian Water Resources Company) to implement extraordinary measures to guarantee drinking water supply in all neighborhoods of the city. Due to the continuous decline in the flow rate of the Tuccio aqueduct and high consumption, especially during weekends, Sorical has decided to implement a rotation of water distribution in the areas of Vito Superiore, Pietro Storta, Condera, Eramo Superiore, Pellaro Località Pantano , Lume, Ribergo, Nocille and Bocale.

In an official note, the company stated: “We are proceeding with a distribution by zones in order to guarantee, as far as technically possible, a uniformity of the supply of water resources to users.” This approach is aimed at minimizing inconvenience for citizens, trying to ensure equal access to drinking water during the entire emergency period.

DROUGHT IN REGGIO CALABRIA: SORICAL’S APPEAL

The situation is particularly critical on weekends, when water consumption increases rapidly, putting the already limited available reserves to the test. For this reason, Sorical has made an appeal to the citizens of Reggio Calabria and the municipalities of the Ionian coast, urging them to limit consumption and use water exclusively for drinking purposes. High temperatures and the lack of significant rainfall have worsened an already worrying drought, making responsible use of water resources essential. Every drop counts and the collaboration of the community is crucial to overcome this difficult moment.

The water emergency represents a significant challenge for the entire province, which requires collective effort and constant attention. Sorical, for its part, continues to monitor the situation and implement all necessary measures to guarantee water supply, trusting in the civic sense and cooperation of citizens.
