Artists’ Church and Cis, summer events begin

The International Writers Center of Calabria (CIS), in collaboration with the municipality of Reggio Calabria and the Church of the Artists of Reggio Calabria, presents a summer full of cultural, artistic and social events. Conferences, meetings and reflections will accompany the public in the discovery of multiple themes.

The desire and enthusiasm to relaunch the primary role of culture, through the promotion and dissemination of the most suggestive and interesting aspects of literature, the arts, sciences, religion, which are the components that have always animated the work of the International Writers Center of Calabria – CISalso for summer 2024, in synergy with the municipality of Reggio Calabria, as part of the Reggio Calabria summer 2024 and with the Church of the artists of Reggio Calabrialed by Don Antonio Cannizzaro, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer period, starting from Tuesday 2nd July, at 6pm, at the Villetta “P. De Nava” Library.

The first conference, entitled «I don’t die: the story of Maria Antonietta Rositani»will be told by the writer and journalist Emilia Condarelli, for a reflection against violence. The professor dialogues with the writer Domenico Labate. He’ll be there Maria Antonietta Rositanivictim of continuous violence by her ex-husband, culminating with the ambush of March 12, 2019, which saw the man set fire to his victim in the middle of the street. Strength and the will to live meant that Maria Antonietta miraculously managed not to succumb.

Wednesday 3 Julyat 9pm, in the evocative setting of Cloister of San Giorgio al Corso from Reggio Calabria, Professor Maria Florinda Minniti, former teacher of Italian and Latin, member of the Scientific Committee of the CIS of Calabria, proposes the conference «Let’s go to the opera! Giacomo Puccini: Madama Butterfly, Turandot».

The event will be introduced by Don Antonio Cannizzaro, parish priest of San Giorgio al Corso, and Loreley Rosita Borruto, president of the CIS of Calabria. 100 years after his death, the International Writers Center of Calabria pays homage to Giacomo Puccini (Lucca, 1858-Brussels 1924). A great Italian composer, Puccini is considered one of the greatest and most significant opera composers of all time.
