LECCE – A maxi marijuana plantation on the outskirts of Lecce with a production of narcotic substance worth almost three million euros and which on the market could potentially yield ten times as much, bringing in earnings of thirty million euros: this is what the researchers discovered financiers of the provincial command of Lecce, in areas adjacent to the Panareo camp, in a peripheral area of the Salento capital.

The operations began following a timely and detailed report from the Bari aerial section: three different rural areas were identified, close to the Panareo field, used for the cultivation of narcotic substances, noting how they were irrigated using directly connected tanks to the centralized public water system, serving the camp.

The magistrate on duty, Alessandro Prontera, was informed of the operations in progress and ordered the seizure of plantations used for growing marijuana against unknown persons, for a total of over 4,500 plants weighing approximately 280 kilograms. The overall market value of the seized plants is approximately 2.8 million euros, but the production could potentially have allowed earnings close to 30 million euros.

Specific investigative activities are underway to trace those responsible for the offense found.
