“I am really happy and proud to have been appointed President of the Steering Committee of the Local Fisheries Action Group (GALP) “Calabria Jonica”. The GALP is a new association established by the FLAG «The seaside villages of the Ionian» (Upper Ionian Calabrian ) and by the «Jonio 2» FLAG (Lower Jonio), which includes local authorities, companies and representatives of civil society from the entire Ionian area of Calabria, with a significant representation of the fishing sector and the sector of processing and marketing of fish products “.
The regional councilor wrote this in a note Ernesto Alecci.
And he continues: “I would like to thank the Assembly of partners, the members of the Steering Committee and the President of the FLAG «Borghi marinari dello Jonio» Cataldo Minò, leader of the project, for the trust they have placed in me. Based on the experience gained over the last 7 years as President of the FLAG Jonio 2, we will try to achieve all the objectives set, without sending back to Europe even a single euro of the funding we will manage, for the development of fishing activities, the protection of marine biodiversity and historical and cultural heritage, training and technological innovation, and employment growth in the sector”.
“The new GALP – he concludes – will operate on a vast territory with 400 km of coastline, which includes 70 municipalities (from Alto Cosentino to Reggio Calabria), 600,000 inhabitants, 8 ports and 4 fish landing points for a total of approximately 400 fishing boats. It will be an exciting challenge. My previous experience has made me understand in a tangible way that organizations like the GALP, through careful planning of interventions and daily dedication, can really impact the development and growth of territories, improving definitely the working conditions of those who work in the fish supply chain and, consequently, the quality of life and the economic standard of entire coastal communities. The objectives are now even more ambitious, I can’t wait to get started!”
