Sassari, June 29, 2024 – It is hunting open to men of the commando who, last night, armed to the teeth, the Mondialpol vault was attacked in Sassari.

A “movie-like assault” with men (about twenty) armed with kalashnikov, a gru to break down the surrounding wall, cars set on fire and sprinkle the streets with nails to cover themselves when they escape and shooting towards the carabinieri and police cars.

And in these hours the hunt is on for the commando who managed to burgle the vault of the Mondialpol surveillance company. According to initial information, after having attacked the Caniga headquarters of Mondialpol on the outskirts of Sassari, the bandits fled into direction Cagliari along State Road 131. In these hours the police and investigators are examining the videos appeared on social media of people who filmed the assault as well as organizing checkpoints and searches based on the reconstruction of the possible escape ciws taken by the members of the commando.

According to available information, the bandits managed to take over the loot which however has not yet been quantified. In particular, it seems that the money of the women was kept in the vault pensions (as reported by Nuova Sardegna) to be paid in the next few days in the post offices in the area.

The criminals, at least ten, armed with Kalashnikovs and dressed in camouflage and bulletproof veststhey went into action around 8.30pm: they placed an excavator next to the perimeter wall of the headquarters Mondialpol di Caniga, and using the length of the arm of the mechanical vehicle they broke through the wall of the building. At the same time, other bandits climbed over the fence with a ladder and entered the premises from where they started took several bags of moneyalways taken out with the bucket of the mechanical vehicle and loaded onto a White Fiat Ducato vanwith whom they then fled towards Cagliari. Not before having shot at the security guards to intimidate them: one of them who was in the sentry box was saved thanks to the bulletproof glass.

The assault was also filmed live on social media. In fact, someone from a nearby building broadcast the video for about ten minutes social direct the images of what was happening outside the security institute, i sounds of gunshotsthe highway blocked, the smoke from the vehicles given to flames at several points, the arrival of police cars. Another video shows the excavator introduced by the bandits and used to load bags with money taken from the vault. A couple in a car, however, filmed one of the armed bandits with his face covered in one phase of the escape. In another videoalso shot from a nearby building, we see a bandit dressed in black operating the excavator while, with gunshots in the background, he breaks through the wall of the building, urged on by the screams of his accomplices who are giving him directions.

“What happened last night in Sassari is of unprecedented gravity. The colleagues are in shock, but fortunately they are fine. The windshield of the service car resisted the Kalashnikov shots that the bandits fired at them, only by a miracle there was no escape died“. This was stated in a note by Eros Retanda, general secretary of the Sassari province New Carabinieri Union (NSC). “This very serious episode – he continues – highlights how a single patrol cannot cope with such events and how it is essential to strengthen territorial control, especially in a land where criminal escalation does not retreat. Already in the month of January – says Retanda – we sent a note to the General Command illustrating the situation of the Sassari mobile radio operations unitshort of staff, with an average age of almost 48 years and working conditions that are physically and psychologically exhausting. An immediate response is needed from the Executive, so that they are invested resources to increase human capital and strengthen those departments, such as that of Sassari, which necessarily need strengthening because they lack personnel. We are relieved to know that none of the security guards or colleagues from the force have suffered any consequences. Professionalism and luck – he concludes – they averted the worst, but on the street you can’t rely only on luck”.
