BARI – The alleged murderers of 43-year-old Giovanni Colaianni, killed by two bullets fired from a .38-caliber revolver in the knee and abdomen on the night between June 21 and 22, 2023, on the landing of his home in Via Napoli, where the man lived with his son and a disabled brother, are on trial.
The trial of the two confessed murderers, accused of voluntary homicide aggravated by premeditation, 25-year-old Nicola Amoruso and 27-year-old Francesco Ricci, both in prison, is taking place before the Assize Court of Bari.
After the constitution of the parties (the victim’s family is a civil party) and the acquisition of most of the investigation documents, we will return to the courtroom on October 1st for the indictment, in which the prosecutor who coordinated the police investigations Desirèe Digeronimo , will ask for the conviction of the two accused.
“Infamous, I’ll shoot you, I’ll disembowel you, I’ll have you and your family killed, as soon as I take your mother and father I have to have them shot.” With these words pronounced in a video call on Instagram by a woman, the argument via social media would have begun, resulting in tragedy, with the murder of Colaianni.
The court documents tell the minute-by-minute story of the ambush, but above all, what happened beforehand. First, a taunt in a small square in the old city between Colaianni’s son and Amoruso’s younger brother, then the threats via social media.
The victim’s son recounted that sequence of threatening phone calls and messages. That evening he had gone out with some friends to attend the Battiti Live concert on the seafront, until shortly after midnight. “I started receiving video calls on Instagram at 10 pm, quite eloquent – he said – with insulting and threatening content, written and voice messages with death threats, from an unknown nickname with a photo of a woman”. In the following hours, the same woman allegedly called the boy’s mother and brother (the victim’s ex-wife and son, respectively) with the same death threats. The alleged threats referred to an unspecified debt of a thousand euros. Those threats then materialized, around 2 in the morning. Amoruso and Ricci allegedly went to Colaianni’s house (the son with whom there had been the virtual argument had not yet returned), rang the intercom, his father Giovanni came down and they killed him. Amoruso shot, while Ricci was standing next to him.
