Florence, 28 June 2024 – The Tour de France 2024 on Italian roads. Guaranteed entertainment and historic event. As for the champions fighting for the yellow jersey, it is difficult for them to expose themselves openly already in the first stage, also because the next day there is the San Luca hill, but they will certainly have to be careful on a route Don’t underestimate the difference in altitude and possible actions from afar.

Summary

First stage already hard enough and never the Tour de France it started with a section of 3,600 meters of altitude difference. The Florence-Rimini, therefore, will not be a banal stage. Obviously homage is paid to Gino Bartali with a start that immediately places the climb of the Valico di Tre Faggi at kilometer 49 after 12 kilometers of climbing at 5.1%. It will not be decisive but will favor a first breakaway. A long descent follows passing through Premilcuore to arrive at the third category climb of the Forche at kilometer 77. Here the route remains undulating and in fact shortly after the climb of the Carnaio begins, following the intermediate sprint of Santa Sofia, which measures 10 kilometers at 4.6% average. You catch your breath a bit with a downhill stretch to pass through San Piero in Bagno and Sarsina, then the Barbotto climb starts from Mercato Saraceno which is second category, 5.8 kilometers long at 7.6%. Short but hard enough GPM. The final still has three climbs. First the San Leo at kilometer 145 for 4.6 kilometers at 7.7%, then in quick succession the Montemaggio of 4.2 kilometers at 6.6% and finally the climb of San Marino, the last springboard, which measures 7.1 kilometers at 4.8%. Summit at kilometer 179. Followed by a descent and then flatland to Rimini. A finale to be experienced, even if the last 26 kilometers from the summit of the last climb could complicate a possible action to win the stage. The first fraction of the Tour will be held on Saturday 29 June with departure at 12.40 and possible arrival time between 17.34 and 18.05 with an estimated average speed between 38 and 42 km/h.

Not an easy stage to read. Many will want to secure the first yellow jersey: identifying favorites is very difficult given a very respectable starting line-up, but for the sake of ranking we mention Van der Poel, Van Aert, Pidcock, Kwiatkowski, Pedersen, Mohoric, Benoot, Laporte, Matthews, Madouas, Philipsen, Bettiol, in the tricolor jersey, Healy, Campenaerts and Cort Nielsen.
