San Cataldo – The first assembly on the transformation of the industrial area of San Cataldo was held on the initiative of the Letizia Collective. The works were introduced by the spokesperson of the Collective, Gianfranco Cammarata: “It is not possible to think of the industrial area of San Cataldo and be in the territory of Caltanissetta.

Our proposal is to transfer the administrative management from the Municipality of Caltanissetta to the Municipality of San Cataldo. This proposal is based on the fact that most of the companies and workers are from San Cataldo and that the Municipality of Caltanissetta has not shown sufficient interest and capacity to provide the necessary services.”

“I want to support the entrepreneurs and workers who operate in the industrial area of San Cataldo – said the Mayor of San Cataldo Gioacchino Comparato – even if our municipality does not have the material possibility of intervention, just because the territory falls within the municipality of Caltanissetta. But I want to give an operational boost to this first meeting and I have already proposed a second meeting to be held next Tuesday.

Salvatore Mistretta spoke on behalf of the entrepreneurs who operate in the area: “With great effort we had managed to set up an industrial area that had more than a thousand employees, within well-run and collaborative, as well as far-sighted, companies. Then politics turned us into nobody’s children, completely disinterested in us and leaving what was once the hard core of entrepreneurship in the Caltanissetta area to rot. When my foreign guests arrive I am ashamed to show them the miserable conditions in which the entire exterior of our companies finds itself.”

Former MP Dedalo PIgnatone recalled his interventions to have the area recognized as a ZES: “The episode of the initial failure to include the ZI SCS within the ZES highlighted the lack of industrial policy on the part of the Municipality of Caltanissetta, so that what should be a ZI courted by two municipalities has in reality become an area abandoned to itself.”

Elio Cirrito, of the Letizia Collective, concluded the work: “We suggest starting the legal procedure for the territorial variation, which could include a referendum.
To relaunch the economy of the industrial area, we underline the importance of helping companies access national and international markets, through non-repayable contributions for expansion projects and promoting participation in sector fairs.
We also suggest encouraging the formation of business clusters to increase competitiveness and create new spaces for innovation and, above all, the need for a cultural change and greater collaboration between entrepreneurs, citizens and institutions for the relaunch of the industrial area.”

Gianfranco Cammarata: “We concluded the meeting by forming a working committee which accepted the invitation of the Mayor of San Cataldo to meet as early as next Tuesday. And we wanted to send a precise and clear signal: the committee will be directed by an entrepreneur, in the person of Salvatore MIstretta, who has a profound knowledge of the issues that concern the entire context of the industrial area.”.
