A 31-year-old woman, Oriana Bertolino, from Marsala, died following an accident in Malta. The woman on board a quad apparently fell into the sea from a cliff in Gozo. The accident occurred on Saturday, around 8pm, on one side of Wied il-Mielah, near Gharb, a place known for its rocky walls overlooking the sea. It appears that a 47-year-old Italian was driving the quad, who managed to jump and save himself, suffering minor injuries.

A group excursion to the picturesque island of Gozo turned into tragedy. From the first reconstructions carried out by the Maltese police it emerges that the woman fell into the sea from a cliff with a quad driven by another Marsala native – a 47 year old GP -. The thirty-year-old was known both as a volleyball player (an appreciated player and recently also technical assistant of the local team) and for her social and cultural commitment. The woman was taking part in a group excursion to watch the sunset. According to what was disclosed by investigative sources, the group of hikers found themselves on a cliff in Gozo, precisely on the panoramic Wied il-Miela stretch. It is an area where you are in full contact with nature, there is a rock arch above the sea and breathtaking views. But obviously it is also an area that presents problems in terms of traffic because it is a dirt road.

The dynamics According to the investigators’ reconstruction, the quad was driven by another 47-year-old Sicilian, also from Marsala. The man managed to save himself, suffering only minor injuries. While the young Oriana died. The forty-seven-year-old apparently lost control of the vehicle due to a steering problem, which prevented him from changing direction.
