Donation to the Food Bank as part of the “Siticibo” project
The non-profit organization Confartigianato Alessandria per il Sociale Odv donated a refrigerated container to the Food Bank for the “Siticibo” project.
The objective is to recover unsold food from the distribution network to deliver it to people in need of assistance.
Thanks to the “Coldtainer” drive-through cold room, donated by the non-profit organization Confartigianato Alessandria per il Sociale – ODV, to the Alessandria Food Bank, which has its operational headquarters at the former Giorgi barracks in Novi Ligure, it will now be possible to extend the collection and delivery of fresh perishable foods to those who need them, having the possibility of transporting foods with temperatures from +30 to -21 degrees centigrade, in full compliance with health and hygiene standards.
“The initiative promoted by the Food Bank – declares the President Paolo Bertolini – aims to address two important social issues, such as food waste and support for the poor and needy, through agreements with the retail food distribution network (currently 18 supermarkets, which will soon become 34), thanks to which it has been possible to date to recover 142,000 kg of packaged food close to its expiry date but still perfectly edible, subsequently distributed by the food bank volunteers to families in need of help”.
