The two police officers were at poolside when they heard the screams of some swimmers who had crowded onto the opposite bank desperately asking for help. As soon as they saw, from afar, a child in the arms of a group of peopleDomenica and Antonio understood that there wasn’t even a minute to waste: they rushed there and, after having qualified themselves as belonging to the State Police, with cold blood, they took matters into their own hands.
When they found themselves in front of him, Ayan was lying on his back at the edge of the pool, unconscious.with cyanotic lips and downturned eyes: he had drank too much water and couldn’t breathe. But fate would have it that, on the weekly rest day of the first shift of the Flying Squad, Domenica and Antonio found themselves in that structure who, a few weeks before, they had completed the course – organized in collaboration with the Italian Rescuers Association – to obtain the BLD-S operator certification and the qualification to use the defibrillator for first aid.

When he finally opened his eyes, next to his parents’ frightened gaze, there were Domenica and Antonio smiling at him, who remained by his side until he died. medical staff intervened and took him to the emergency room.
A few hours after the episode that brought them together, Sunday and Antonio went to visit Ayan in hospital where, welcomed with open arms by the reassured gaze of his parents, they surprised him with “the policeman’s toolbox”: in the photo, next to the little hero, as it says on the t-shirt he is wearing, are his two police friends accompanied by the official, Edoardo, proud of their teamwork.
