Quartu Sant’Elena, the Carabinieri save a family of Mallards at the Lido del Carabiniere

Late yesterday afternoon, at the Lido del Carabiniere in Quartu Sant’Elena, a real rescue operation took place which once again highlighted the extraordinary human and professional qualities of the Carabinieri on duty. The protagonists of this touching story were a family of mallards and the Carabinieri, always attentive and ready to intervene in any emergency situation, whether the danger is for citizens or for the environment and wildlife.

While carrying out their usual service, the Carabinieri noticed a family of mallards in difficulty. The group, made up of a male, a female and five chicks, was swimming towards the shore, but was at the mercy of the waves and under attack by a group of seagulls. Unfortunately, the latter had already managed to take one of the little ones away.

Without hesitation, the Carabinieri immediately rushed to rescue the animals. The intervention was timely and decisive: the four remaining chicks were rescued with great skill and delicacy. Our military has demonstrated exceptional sensitivity, going well beyond the normal service and also highlighting a deep respect for animal life.

Once rescued, the mallards were handed over to the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps to receive the necessary care. The experts monitored the health of the birds and prepared them for a future release into the wild. This collaboration between different law enforcement agencies has demonstrated the effectiveness of synergistic work aimed at protecting the environment and biodiversity.
