NAPLES. FAREWELL TO CARLO GIORLEO: A GREAT GENTLEMAN DOCTOR

Dr. Carlo Giorleo, an Ischian by adoption, was one of the last great gentleman doctors. Gifted with a rare elegance, he shone in his field. Author of numerous publications and consultant to the Court of Naples in the field of Forensic Medicine, he held top positions in the National Institute of Social Security before dedicating himself to the private profession.

Always available, kind and affable, Carlo Giorleo was also highly appreciated by the television audience, thanks to his participation in programs on healthcare and health. On these occasions, he provided valuable guidance on complex issues such as the submission of applications for the recognition of civil disability and the related evaluation. He was a point of reference for many, not only in Naples, who knew they could count on him for advice, comfort or help. Carlo Giorleo was a true doctor, faithful to the Hippocratic Oath, always ready to help those who were suffering.

A lover of the sea and a splendid host, Carlo was also an exceptional cook, with a particular predilection for risottos and fish-based preparations. His Ferragosto dinners, in which every year he beat the previous record with the perfect grilling of increasingly larger salmon, have entered the history of the most beautiful evenings in Ischia.

For those who had the privilege of knowing him, saying goodbye is difficult and painful. Carlo discovered he was ill in early May, noticing difficulty swallowing that, as an expert doctor, he immediately diagnosed. Unfortunately, diagnostic tests proved him right: a rare and aggressive carcinoma devoured him in less than two months. He immediately told his family and closest friends that he was about to leave and that he did not want any aggressive treatment.

Carlo left with elegance, as he lived, leaving his last look to his great love and lifelong companion, Gabriella Speranza. With her, Carlo leaves her children Federica, an expert in law, whom he accompanied to the altar last autumn, and Gianmarco, who inherited her elegance and generosity from his father, becoming a dentist.

The funeral was held this afternoon, Friday 28 June, at 5:30 pm, in the Church of Santa Maria dell’Aiuto, in the street of the same name, in the heart of the historic centre, where Carlo spent his youth.

Bruno Molinaro, Gianpaolo Buono and Giancarlo Di Meglio join the Giorleo family heartbrokenly in the indelible memory of their dearest Carlo, a beloved friend and undisputed luminary of Forensic Medicine, a professional gentleman and always at the service of those most in need. May God have his glory!
