Two beds are created for pediatric emergencies within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, directed by Stefania Troiani, of the Perugia hospital. Pediatric emergency which is not to be confused with neonatal intensive care.
This means that, starting next week, pediatric patients, therefore those who are no longer newborns, will be able to be hosted in a special room equipped with all the equipment for pediatric resuscitation. Previously, there was a place in the adult resuscitation unit, sufficient only to stabilize the pediatric patient and then transfer him to specific hospitals. Now, however, he will be able to remain in Perugia and be assisted here, for everything that is the responsibility of the multidisciplinary team that the Perugia hospital is equipped with.
The room with two beds is inside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, directed by Stefania Troiani, which has been restored and is now equipped with the equipment for the two pediatric emergency beds. The Cucinelli family has offered a significant financial contribution for the restoration. Details will be announced at the inauguration in the coming days.
The Umbria Region has always lacked beds for pediatric intensive care because the catchment area is not sufficient to create a Tip (pediatric intensive care). A pool of expert personnel (Neonatology and Anesthesia-Resuscitation) has been created and trained to rotate around the pediatric patient, in a team effort that puts the child at the center. The management of the aforementioned patients will involve a multidisciplinary approach, with the collaboration of Anesthetists-Resuscitators (from the Anesthesia and Resuscitation directed by Prof. Edoardo De Robertis), with specific pediatric skills and Pediatricians-Neonatologists with an intensive care specialization. The service will also make use of the specialist consultancy services already present in the health facility.
