Two new ships from the Superfast Ferries fleet will be able to dock and depart in the port of Ancona.

The Morandi Group has announced that Attica Group, the most important Greek shipping company, has signed an agreement with Stena Ro Ro for the construction and long-term rental with the right to purchase two ships and the prospect of expansion for another 2. This news was released by the Morandi Group, General Agent for Italy of the Attica Group, which will therefore see its available fleet grow, strengthening the Superfast fleet that has been managed by the Group since 1994 thanks to the intuition and foresight of Renato Morandi.

Now there is great satisfaction for Andrea Morandi, President of Morandi Group: “We are proud of this new challenge that involves us and the Doric port itself. Superfast, after 30 years, is once again revolutionizing the ferry sector – with this new project dedicated to the Adriatic – which defines the new standard for service, environmental impact and comfort. In this way we are addressing the new frontiers of innovation that concern our field and we are making ourselves available to the project so that with these two new ships the port of Ancona can further grow from a tourist point of view. This is – continues Morandi – a strong signal from Attica in wanting to invest precisely in the Adriatic backbone, in particular in Ancona and Bari, giving centrality to our sea within the more general Mediterranean basin”. The Morandi Group is ready.

In detail we talk about two E-Flexer ships. built by Stena RoRo at the Chinese CMI Jinling Weihai shipyard and delivery is scheduled for April and August 2027. With a maximum length of 240 meters, the 2 new Attica ships are the largest ever ordered by a Greek shipping company. The transport capacity of 1,500 passengers and 3,320 linear meters of garage (approximately 200 trucks) per vessel for the service of cars, trucks and trailers will significantly improve the Group’s overall transport capacity on the Adriatic lines that will be active. Moreover, investments in new technologies and innovation represent a one-way street for maritime transport as a whole, as they contribute decisively to the reduction of the environmental footprint, with a consequent reduction in the related adaptation costs (for example purchase of rights (ETS)) and improving competitiveness.

The operation, explains Morandi, “is consistent with Attica’s commitment to the green transition and the strengthening of its fleet. The new ships will be certified, methanol ready and battery ready, with engines designed to run on 3 different types of fuel. They are also equipped with cutting-edge technology for optimal environmental performance and reduction of gaseous pollutant emissions, as well as a number of other technical measures, which translate into a significant reduction in gaseous pollutant emissions by 60% per transport project, compared to existing ships”. This is a medium-term project that will lead the Doric port to take up the new challenges of technological development and the green transition. An approach by the Attica Group towards environmental sustainability that fits perfectly with the green development lines of the Morandi Group itself.
