“I want to say to citizens that I understand their concerns, but we are working as never before on the bradyseism phenomenon, and we must give citizens security by carrying out the activities we are implementing”.

Thus the mayor of Pozzuoli, Luigi Manzoni, commenting on the presence of only about thirty fellow citizens in front of the Civil Protection stand set up on the seafront on the day dedicated to the earthquake simulation.

About 300 reservations had been registered in Pozzuoli, but on Wednesday morning only four of those who had booked showed up at the stand. They were joined by other locals who hadn’t booked but who still showed up on the seafront. Behind them, hundreds of people bathe in the city sea.

“Everything that had to be done – Manzoni underlined – we are doing it without wasting time. I do not feel like condemning anyone who did not come, I just want to understand with data in hand and work on the critical issues because here we are looking for a solution to any problem. I also reflect on the fact that we are carrying out exercises and at the same time we are experiencing a state of emergency in Pozzuoli, so this could be one of the causes. The communication to the citizens on this simulation has been done – concluded the mayor – now I think we need to actually understand the reasons for this low participation”.

The national head of Civil Protection Fabrizio Curcio is saddened by the poor participation of the Pozzuoli population in the anti-bradyseism exercise: “We must understand how to increase people’s involvement”.

The population is divided between those who say they knew nothing and those who protest: “It is not serious to ask those who really escaped to simulate”
