MATERA – The mayor of Matera, Domenico Bennardi, in relation to the reduced water supply and to what was reported by Acquedotto Lucano, with an ordinance issued today has ordered – with immediate effect and until next September 15 – the prohibition of the withdrawal and consumption of drinking water for irrigation and watering of gardens and lawns, washing of courtyards, squares and private vehicles.

It also prohibited the filling of ornamental fountains, garden basins, swimming pools, even if equipped with water recirculation and all uses other than food, domestic and hygienic and cultivation use. “It also provided for the exemption of the ban on public and ornamental green areas where there are trees and shrubs planted in the last five years.

Bennardi specified that “water withdrawals from the water supply remain permitted” exclusively for normal domestic, zootechnical and industrial uses and in any case for all those regularly authorized activities for which the use of drinking water is required. And for public urban hygiene services. Finally, he invited citizens to use drinking water rationally and correctly, recognizing the utmost importance of active collaboration from everyone.
