From 3 to 7 July. Bishop Mario will lead the delegation of our diocese

Excitement is growing in view of the celebration of the 50th Social Week of Italian Catholics scheduled in Trieste from July 3 to 7. The themes of “Participation between present and future” will be at the center of the discussions, reflecting on the vital importance they have in the life of democracy.
The event is enriched by the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who will open the meetings, and of Pope Francis who will lead the Eucharistic celebration of July 7, in the spiritual culmination of the week. A significant novelty will be the “squares of democracy”, conceived as spaces for discussion and reflection.
The one on “Ecological Conversion: energy to change course” stands out, a debate on strategies to orient society towards a sustainable model; figures such as Giovanni Mori, Gabriella Chiellino and Chiara Francesca Di Tizio will discuss how renewable energy can be the engine of radical change.
Another key theme will be Digital Democracy, with a focus on how communication and information are evolving in the era of artificial intelligence. Experts such as Paolo Benanti and Marco Bentivogli will illustrate the challenges and opportunities that this technological progress entails.
The theme of prison will be addressed from the perspective of building dignity and freedom for prisoners, with interventions by Marta Cartabia, Benedetta Bertolini and Giuseppe Mattina, who will bring to light issues of justice and social reintegration. Finally, the “square” dedicated to Youth and Participation will focus on the role of Catholics in democracy and how they can actively contribute to the democratic path.
Andrea Bonanomi, Cristina Pasqualini, Ernesto Preziosi, Alessandro Rosina and mons. Francesco Savino will discuss the importance of youth engagement and the continuity of the democratic path.
These squares represent a unique opportunity to stimulate debate, exchange ideas and propose innovative solutions to current problems, involving citizens and experts in a constructive and open dialogue.
Our diocese will participate with an exceptional delegation, composed of Bishop Mario, myself as director of Social and Labor Pastoral, and Alessandro Stefanini, Community Animator of Progetto Policoro; they will also be joined by Sara Vatteroni of Migrantes nazionale, symbol of our community’s investment in a future of conscious participation.
The 50th Social Week is a unique opportunity to strengthen the connective tissue of our Catholic community. Through dialogue and sharing positive experiences, we can inspire meaningful change that starts from the heart of each person and extends to the entire society. We are called to experience this opportunity with our feet firmly planted in our territorial reality but with our wings wide open to try to make a leap forward.
