“Generic, superficial and even instrumental motivations”. A few hours after the announcement of Airports of Puglia (AdP) to withdraw from Assayairports to enter the opposing acronym Airports 2030 – with reasons expressed directly by its president, Antonio Maria Vasile – comes the harsh comment from Assaeroporti’s top management.
“The commitment to sustainability – we read in the note – the search for continuous innovation, being ‘beyond imagination’, the desire to build ‘the airport of the future towards which we take off’, are statements that attempt to give dignity to a choice dictated exclusively by search for visibility of the president of Airports of Puglia. As shown in the minutes of the meetings of the associative bodies, the president of AdP, in all the meetings of the Board of Directors in which he participated in the last three years, did not never questioned choices, orientations and initiatives of the association itself”.
“In the 2023 meeting – continues the Assaeroporti press release – it proposed a statutory amendment, which was accepted unanimously by the members. In the recent 2024 meeting, Aeroporti di Puglia also voted in favor of the reconfirmation of the president of Assaeroporti, approved the programmatic reportabstaining instead on the appointment of vice presidents, as it was evidently interested in that position for its president”.
The note concludes by recalling that “Assaeroporti remains an association that favors overall interests of the members and the policies for strengthening and qualifying the Italian airport system which cannot be ‘exchanged’, nor resized to meet personal ambitions. Precisely because of the evidence of the real reasons that determined the choice of Aeroporti di Puglia, it appears sincere excessive the enthusiasm shown by Aeroporti 2030, which Aeroporti di Puglia has decided to join. It should be a common objective full cohesion of the entire category: unfortunately, the tendency to favor associative ties based on personal motivations is confirmed”.
