Afragola. Born in New Yorkraised in Ponticelli, the brothers Fabio Catalano38 years old, his brother Alessandro, 42 years old, detained at the Pescara prison and on leave, together with their accomplice Antonio Caputo37 years old, from Casoria, all already known to the forces, organized and carried out spectacular robberies.
Like that of last May 13th, when in the middle of the morning they attacked the jewelry store “Auri Tempori” located in the “La Porte di Napoli” shopping center in Afragola, spreading terror and threatening employees and customers with machine guns. So much so that he had luxury watches, jewels and other precious objects displayed in the shop windows for a value of around 400 thousand euros delivered. And last Monday the three members of the gang were preparing to pull off another heist.
This time at the jewelry store of the “Piccolo” supermarket Pomigliano d’Arco, fortunately failed due to the presence of the police cars, who were on their trail already in the hours following the 400 thousand euro robbery. And this attempt led to the Prosecutor’s Office of North Naplesordered an immediate arrest for the three, who were blocked in their respective homes by the carabinieri of the Afragola barracks, directed by the lieutenant Raimondo Sempervivo. The detainees, for whom the prosecutor’s office hypothesizes the crimes of aggravated robbery, receiving stolen goods and illegal possession of a firearm, are now locked up in the prison of Secondigliano, awaiting the validation hearing. During the house searches the military found and seized the clothes worn by the three in the robbery in Afragola, the silicone masks reproducing the faces of elderly people and two Kalashnikov and large-caliber guns, weapons so-called replicas of the originals. But to frame the three, the fingerprint of one of the arrested persons detected in the “Auri Tempora” jewelry store, turned out to correspond to those of one of the three arrested persons, entered into the law enforcement database.
The investigations, which saw six carabinieri from the Afragola barracks operating, coordinated by the lieutenant Carmine Antinori, made it possible to ascertain that the criminals planned the robbery meticulously, also carrying out several inspections to identify the possible presence of vigilantes and alternative escape routes. And to move around without attracting attention, the criminals only used stolen Pandas, preceded as a relay by the Peugeot of the wife of one of the three arrested. Quick in action, only two of them broke into the shop to be robbed while the third accomplice remained near the exit of the shopping centre, ready to intervene in case of problems.
