Universal Civil Service, the path begins for 64 young people

24 volunteers from the Universal Civil Service begin their commitment today, involved in the projects of the Municipality of Cremona and other partner bodies. This morning girls and boys were welcomed at the Monteverdi Theater by the staff of the Projects and Resources Service which coordinates the volunteers employed in the projects presented in 2023 by the Municipality of Cremona. Another group of 53 male and female volunteers has already taken up service on May 25th and are part of four projects presented in co-planning with ANCI Lombardia.

They are in total 87 girls and boys who will be involved in 9 projects, two of which abroad, and who will serve for a year in 64 locations, of which 6 in the Municipality, and the others in institutions, schools, associations and organizations in Cremona and the surrounding area. The majority of these volunteers will carry out their activity in the city, the remainder in the territory of three provinces: Cremona, Mantua and Brescia and in France, North Macedonia, Belgium and Spain. As last year, some civil service positions have been reserved for young people with fewer opportunities, that is, who find themselves in conditions of temporary personal or social fragility, or who have economic difficulties.

A project is also active in the city European Solidarity Corps which sees the presence of Eleni Spyridoula Sergini at the “Andrea Pazienza” Comics Center. This project lasts one year and another 5 volunteers will arrive after the summer.

The presentation of the projects is the result of demanding work every year which involves the Municipality’s Civil Service Office, which coordinates the work. The development of the contents and the accompanying documentation, in fact, require a significant commitment that lasts several months. But, at least until now, it has certainly been worth it, given the always positive response from young people from Cremona willing to provide a year of service for the benefit of the local community. To date, in fact, there have been over 1150 young volunteers, working in more than 200 locations, selected out of over 2,900 candidates.

During the meeting, the first information was given regarding the activities they will carry out, as well as what is foreseen by the recent legislation which provides for a reserve of places equal to 15%, in public competitions and for the hiring of non-managerial staff for volunteer operators who have completed the Universal Civil Service (SCU) without demerit. A recognition of the value and experience of those who have served as volunteers, dedicating themselves, for a period of their lives, to the care of the public good and increasingly developing a civic sense and a spirit of belonging to our communities. The monthly allowance for SCU volunteers is 507.30 euros. Finally, having completed the necessary formalities, the volunteers reached the various destination locations.
