RAGUSA – “We were reached by a request for clarity from some citizens residing in Marina di Ragusa on the work currently underway in the same coastal hamlet for the construction of a repeater antenna for telecommunications purposes. For this reason, we have presented a request for access to the documents in order to know the documentation in the body’s possession regarding the use of public land and/or concession for the construction of the same currently underway in via Ammiraglio Rizzo”. This is what the city councilors Federico Bennardo, Sebastiano Zagami and Rossana Caruso found. “Should they be formally documented – underline the 3 councilors – we also asked to know the details of the project and any documents in the body’s possession regarding the possible environmental impact or health risk of the repeater antenna. Marina di Ragusa experiences a periodic and exponential increase in the population during the summer season which makes adaptation work within the hamlet essential to avoid disruptions: think of the water network, the electricity network and, last but not least, the telecommunications network. Regarding the latter, however, it is good to know first what the options are on the table in order to choose the best one in terms of impact”.

“The recent construction sites in the Nave district, and specifically in via Ammiraglio Luigi Rizzo, are contributing to changing the morphology of the Marina di Ragusa area, but we would never have expected that a telephone antenna over 25 meters high would be allocated meters and just over twenty meters away from neighboring houses”. The recently established committee called “We don’t want the antenna” says so. “It is important to point out – continues the note – that the environmental impact, with repercussions on public health not only of residents, the first recipients of the side effects caused by a telephone antenna of this magnitude, is the main concern. Not to mention the notable landscape impact on the area, rising on one of the most important access roads to Marina di Ragusa, a prelude to welcome, a business card for the thousands of tourists who come to our location, the pride and pride of the whole the community. The spontaneous constituent committee made up of residents of Marina di Ragusa asks for a public question on what has been put in place, and promotes the interruption of the works with relocation to other lands far from the town centre”.
