Tragedy in Montemarano, in the province of Avellino, where an eight-year-old boy lost his life while playing in the courtyard of his home. The death, which occurred yesterday evening (Wednesday 26 June), around 8pm, was caused by the fall of an iron table, with which the child was playing, which came loose from its fastening and crushed him without giving him a chance . The child, the only child of a couple who lives in the rural district of Macchia del Monte, was about to go with his parents to the patronal festival taking place in a nearby hamlet.
From initial investigations it appears he fell and hit his head violently. The 118 health workers intervened on site. Despite the resuscitation attempts, the health workers were unable to do anything other than confirm his death. Investigations were started by the police who intervened at the scene of the tragedy.
Citizen mourning
Mayor Beniamino Palmieri wrote on Facebook: «We are experiencing a tragedy that leaves us speechless and throws us into a state of deep pain and sincere emotion. We all have the duty to mourn this child who passed away so soon, we all have the duty to rally around his family, because this mourning belongs to all of Montemarano. Acting as an interpreter of the sentiment of the entire community, I have decided to proclaim city mourning for tomorrow 28/06/24″. The celebration of Saints John and Paul and the performance of the singer-songwriter Povia were canceled yesterday.
