A known criminal wanted in the Schengen area for serious crimes, including criminal conspiracy and murder, was arrested in Verona by the State Police. The fugitive, a 35-year-old of Albanian origin, was the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by Belgium.
The continuous monitoring of airport transits and the full synergy between the investigative offices made it possible to detect the arrival of the fugitive, together with his family, at Treviso airport.
After disembarking, the fugitive is fled in a car that was waiting for him outside the airport.

The escape was brief, however. Thanks to a series of stakeout and observation services, supported by video images, license plate reading systems and computer searches, the man was then intercepted by the State Police in Verona. The agents of the mobile squad have followed and stopped at the entrance of a building where he was probably seeking refuge.
The location and capture operation was possible thanks to the collaboration between the International Police Cooperation Service and foreign organizations. Using an advanced information system that allows the information acquired by the various Police Forces to be processed in real time, the operation was launched following a report from the liaison expert for Belgium. The success of the operation was the result of close collaboration between the flying squads of Verona, Treviso and Bresciaand the air border police offices of Treviso and Villafranca di Verona.
The Albanian fugitive, now in handcuffs, will have to serve his sentence in Belgium.
