Party at the provincial command

The celebrations for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Financial Police continue. Today, June 27, at the “Cap. E. Franco” in Largo delle Fiamme Gialle, Caltanissetta, the ceremony to celebrate the Foundation of the Corps will take place. In 2023 and in the first five months of 2024, the Caltanissetta Financial Police carried out 3,400 inspections and 250 investigative activities to combat economic-financial crimes and the infiltration of crime into the economy: an “all-round” commitment to protect families and businesses, destined to further intensify to guarantee the correct allocation of the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Precisely in this regard, during 2023, 5 protocols were signed with as many Municipalities of the province, aimed at working jointly on the projects financed with the PNRR in order to avoid any attempt at fraud. In the fight against tax credit fraud and tax evasion, the Nissene yellow flames carried out 343 interventions that allowed them to ascertain over 70 million euros of income items subtracted from taxation and 31.2 million euros of evaded taxes including VAT, personal income tax and withholdings not paid to the treasury.
The inspection interventions also made it possible to identify 95 operations aimed at undue compensation and other offenses relating to tax credits and to detect compensation of non-existent credits for over 3.2 million euros. During the first 5 months of 2024, credits worth over 166 thousand euros were reported to the Revenue Agency for the purposes of suspending F24 payment delegations containing tax compensation at risk. The inspection activities in the province made it possible to identify a total of 29 tax evaders, i.e. those carrying out business or self-employed activities completely unknown to the tax authorities (many of whom operate through electronic commerce platforms) and 396 illegal or irregular workers, registering 60 employers. 5 people were reported for gangmastering, of which 1 was arrested, and 15 workers were victims of gangmastering.
Furthermore, following a complex investigation into tax crimes undertaken by the Caltanissetta Guardia di Finanza, a multilateral control was launched, organized by the European Commission, aimed at blocking a complex Carousel Fraud scheme in various EU countries aimed at to perpetrate a huge violation of VAT on a community scale. The subjects reported for tax crimes are 81. As a result of investigations delegated by the Judicial Authority, non-existent or high fiscal risk tax credits in the field of construction and energy were also cautioned and reported to the Revenue Agency, as well as seized assets constituting profits from tax evasion and tax fraud, for a value of 2.6 million euros. 7 proposals have been put forward for the termination of the VAT number and cancellation from the Vies database, against economic entities characterized by tax risk profiles. The 21 interventions regarding excise duties made it possible to seize kg. 47,000 of energy products. There are, however, 145 customs controls on goods brought into the national territory in tax evasion, counterfeit or in violation of safety regulations. There were 27 checks and investigations against illegal gaming in the province which allowed 11 violations to be found and 3 perpetrators to be reported.
