Tourism, councilor Mazzali in the Chamber of Commerce: «Data growing also in 2024»

CREMONA – The analysis of the first data on tourist flows in the province of Cremona from January to April 2024 highlights presences 14% higher than in 2023, with arrivals equal to +2.50%. This is what emerged today during the discussion at the Chamber of Commerce of Cremona, where the Councilor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region Barbara Mazzali commented on the latest data and the trend of the tourism sector in the area. On this occasion, he presented the recent measures to support the sector and shared the new territorial marketing strategies with hospitality, trade and craft operators.

THE NUMBERS OF THE REGIONAL OBSERVATORY

The numbers from the Regional Tourism Observatory, in collaboration with the Tourism Observatory of the Municipality of Cremona, confirm the growth trend which already last year had seen an increase in overnight stays in the Cremona area equal to + 17% compared to 2019, reference year for Italian tourism. «Cremona is growing – he explained – because it has been able to respond perfectly to the demand for ‘experiential tourism’, which here in a particular way is intertwined with the beauty of nature, with the excellent craftsmanship that combines artisan ‘know-how’ with technological innovation, with the delicious culinary tradition, with events capable of moving large numbers ». The meeting was also attended Gian Domenico AuricchioExtraordinary Commissioner of the Cremona Chamber of Commerce, operators and local institutions.

GREAT WORK DONE TO ATTRACT CULTURED TOURISM

«Cremona – continued the councilor – is certainly a city of art with a historic center that houses architectural treasures, it is the city of music thanks to its centuries-old tradition in the construction of violins and stringed instruments, linked to the most famous families in the world – Stradivari, Amati and Guarneri del Gesù – who made the history of violin making here. Cremona is also a city that has been able to enhance its artistic and cultural heritage over time with exhibitions and major events to attract cultured tourism. Added to this is the ability to present itself as a destination for experiences linked to ‘slow tourism’, which appreciates open-air circuits and food and wine”.

RIVER CRUISES, CYCLE TOURS AND TASTE

«Thanks to its position on the banks of the Po river – he added – this area offers experiential routes along its waterways and the many cycle paths. Those arriving in Cremona can enjoy mini-cruises to discover landscape and culinary excellence. This form of tourism is attracting great interest, especially among foreigners, and the valorization that is being made of it here is very positive.”

TOURISM PUSHES TO TERRITORY GROWTH

«Tourism – highlighted Gian Domenico Auricchio – represents an economic sector in constant evolution, it plays a fundamental role in contributing to growth, creating jobs, increasing productivity and income, diversifying the economy. And this is also the case for Cremonto. At the end of 2023, there were over 2,300 Cremonese companies active in the entire tourism supply chain and the data is indicative of a sector that is constantly increasing also in terms of new arrivals (+44%). Lombardy, in all its territories, has its own unmistakable style, a know-how that characterizes us and which brings together the natural beauty, the monuments, the traditions: creating a territorial marketing project that promotes all the Lombard excellences that bind creativity, beauty and culture is undoubtedly a great value.”
