In order for the city to be safer and to guarantee the necessary services to citizens, more video surveillance is needed. This is now known. The Ministry of the Interior Department of Public Security, through the Management Authority of the Complementary Operational Programme “Legality” 2014-2020, intended to launch a selection of projects aimed at the acquisition and implementation of technological systems for the protection of urban areas. There are 30 million euros available for municipalities in the South and the request must be presented to the Prefecture of Trapani, as far as this Province is concerned, which in recent weeks has already started consultation tables with the Public Administrations. In Marsala, a technical and economic feasibility project has been drawn up relating to a video surveillance system to be installed in various sites in the municipal area for a cost of 250 thousand euros of which 175,493.73 euros for works.
The situation is different on the water services front. Considering it a state of emergency due to the drought throughout the Region and the ancient water pipeline of the City of Marsala, which already makes the supply of the precious resource precarious, the Municipality intends to safeguard its systems with video surveillance cameras. Days ago, yet another theft of electrical cables and the tampering with the panels and control units of the Sinubio wells led to another serious problem which is slowly being resolved. But it is urgent to provide for control and greater safety of these plants. This can only be done with a new generation alarm system with motion detectors capable of signaling the possible presence of strangers. With a managerial decision, Dr. Gaspare Zichittella of the Integrated Water Service was appointed as sole manager of the project for the assignment of the video surveillance service and Dr. Paola Catalano as support to the RUP. With this act the RUP will have to take care of the obligations for the urgent assignment.
