Twenty years of Blue Flag. Services are rewarded

PISA

For the twentieth consecutive year the Pisan coast celebrates the Blue Flag, the recognition assigned every year by the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee) to seaside resorts that offer quality services in a valuable environmental context, with 4 flags for Calambrone, Tirrenia, Marina of Pisa and the tourist port of Pisa. The official flag raising ceremony, with the delivery of the flags to the bathing establishments, took place yesterday at Bagno Mary in Tirrenia with the mayor Michele Conti, the councilors for the environment and tourism, Giulia Gambini and Paolo Pesciatini, the frigate captain of the Port Authority of Livorno, Fabrizio Fantozzi, the administrator of the Port of Pisa, Simone Tempesti, and the presidents of the seaside unions of Confcommercio and Confesercenti, Fabrizio Fontani and Gianluca Tiozzo. “In recent years – said Conti – we have worked a lot for the coast, taking care of the public spaces, the furnishings, the greenery. Also in the coming months we will continue with the resurfacing of roads and pavements and major maintenance. And we will do it in the coming years together to operators and associations to maintain and improve water quality, liveability, environmental and tourist services”. According to Giulia Gambini, the blue flag “demonstrates the administration’s attention to environmental protection and the biodiversity of the coast: for the summer, together with Geofor, we have planned a monitoring activity in the beach establishments, to raise awareness among guests and entrepreneurs to these issues and together with the Port we will monitor micro plastics to mitigate the effects of people’s incorrect behavior upstream.” “The blue flag – observed Pesciatini – certifies the attention of our reception system to guests of the coast with a series of good practices also achieved thanks to the collaboration between public and private”. The seaside resorts welcome the confirmation of the blue flags with satisfaction, while hoping, underlined Fontani, for “clarity on Bolkestein because without certainties it is difficult to make investments” and because, added Tiozzo, “our coast boasts two golf courses, an equestrian center , a port and excellent connections to the airport but without a clear regulatory framework we are condemned to uncertainty”. Finally, Tempesti recalled “the port’s commitment also to environmental education”.
