ROME – The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, together with the councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle, Sabrina Alfonsi and the president of the Municipality of Rome VIII, Amedeo Ciaccheri, inaugurated on the evening of Tuesday 25 June the start of the new summer season of Tiberis beach. The area of approximately 2 hectares, located on the left bank of the Tiber, at the height of Ponte Marconihas also been equipped this year with water games, which children love, with straw umbrellas and relaxation areas, a refreshment point, table football, table tennis and two beach volleyball courts. And then the kiosk which, with its menu and its facilities, will guarantee everyone the possibility of using a comfortable, accessible, safe, clean and welcoming place. There is also ample space for well-being, with yoga lessons and other disciplines to participate in, benefiting from the closeness to the nature that lives around the slow flow of the river. And in the evening, from the aperitif onwards, many live music events and dance eveningswhich will allow young people and families to socialize in this regenerated space.

“Having managed to stabilize such a beautiful and high-quality place is a source of joy for us. This river beach is just one stage of the larger project of the overlooking parks. Tiberis, with winter programming as well, fully becomes the ninth park along the river. We will move forward, to create a single linear river park, the largest in Europe. Let’s bring the Tiber back to the center of city life and Tiberis is the jewel of this project also having this dimension of beach, with all the services needed to enjoy this space. I thank Councilor Alfonsi and the managers who have taken care of the growth of this unique place”, commented the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri.

“Tiberis is starting again this year, a successful experiment that we can now consider a consolidated reality in the panorama of summer initiatives in Rome – comments councilor Sabrina Alfonsi on the sidelines of the inauguration – The introduction of a different management model from that of the past, which allows the operator to achieve economic balance through evening entertainment activities, has proven to be the key to the success of this initiative. We are faced with an example of how, through effective collaboration between public and private, this is possible offer citizens a high quality service at a lower cost for the Administration”.

A PERMANENT PARK

At the end of the summer season, set for October 15th, the Tiberis area will be affected by the construction site for the new Tiber South river park, which will sanction the definitive return of these precious spaces to the citizens, continues the note. The services conference for the PFTE (technical-economic feasibility plan) has just ended and the executive project is being drawn up to start the construction site in mid-October. The expected amount for the works on the new park amounts to approximately 1 million euros. The transformation of Tiberis into a permanent park aims to enhance the recreational-sports character of the sitewith the presence of luminous water features, with a non-slip platform and walkway, with new equipment and with the construction of a stepped square.

THE MOST LINEAR PARK

The presence of riparian trees is expected to increase to strengthen their ability to purify the soil and improve temperatures, counteracting the effects of climate change. The rebirth of Tiberis and its becoming from a temporary idea, linked only to summer events, to a large permanent park, is part of a broader vision of the city, in which the Tiber will become the largest linear park in Rome. Also for this reason, after the creation of the Tevere Magliana Park and the Tevere Marconi Park, this Administration is creating, with an investment of 7.3 million of Jubilee funds, 5 overlooking parks: Aniene park, Milvio bridge and Flaminio bridge naturalistic oasis, Foro Italico park, LungoTevere delle Navi naturalistic area, Ostia antica park. The right to greenery is thus extended, which is fundamental for the health and well-being of citizens, and which is a guiding objective of the regeneration of Rome in terms of social and climate justice.
