RECANATI/TORRE DEL GRECO – Agostino Ingenito, president of the “Leopardi e Napoli” association: “It seems like a nice way to celebrate Giacomo Leopardi, one of the greatest Italian writers and prose writers of all time. We celebrate the poetic genius and his philosophical thought that permeate all his writings, from the Operette Morali, as for the Zibaldone, the great idylls, the odes, songs and poems.

Happy birthday Giacomo Leopardi. In Torre del Greco, at Villa delle Ginestre, on Thursday 27 June at 6.30 pm, the 226th birthday will be celebrated with the literary evening “Infinito Leopardi”. With the patronage of the Ente Ville Vesuviane Foundation, led by president Gennaro Miranda, who included the initiative in his programming dedicated to Leopardi, the literary meeting is promoted by the “Leopardi e Napoli” association, in synergy with Aps Guestitaly, Ets AssoMiMe, the Nibiru/Media Leader publishing house, the newspapers DentroSalerno and Agrotoday. The interventions of experts, lovers and enthusiasts of the writings and poems of Leopardi are expected.

The Leopardi e Napoli association, coordinated by the journalist and essayist Agostino Ingenito, has been organizing this celebratory event for many years, with literary initiatives that have taken place over the years in various emblematic places of Leopardi’s Neapolitan stay, from the Largo di Palazzo Reale, to the complex San Domenico Maggiore, in the Vergiliano park, as in Vico Pero, the address of the poet’s last home and near the Torrese villa, where Leopardi wrote Ginestra. The association, with the publishing house Nibiru Medialeader, also publishes the collective book “Infinito Leopardi”, now in its fourth volume, with texts by experts, writers and poets.

The literary evening will feature speeches by Carlo Di Lieto, professor of Italian literature at Suor Orsola Benincasa, the writer Raffaele Urraro, Gabriele Pulli, associate professor of philosophical psychology at the University of Salerno, Bruno Pezzella, journalist and training teacher, the essayist Carmela Politi Cenere, president of the Emily Dickinson International Prize, Nicola Prebenna, poet and writer, and the journalist Roberto Russo.

The readings of some poems and letters taken from the correspondence are by the school director and teacher Laura Patrizia Cagnazzo and the journalist Luigi Snichelotto.

Coordinating the literary evening is the journalist and director of the online newspaper DentroSalerno Rita Ovest Lupo.

“It seems like a nice way to celebrate Giacomo Leopardi, one of the greatest Italian writers and prose writers of all time – declares Agostino Ingenito – We celebrate the poetic genius and his philosophical thought that permeate all his writings, from the Operette Morali, as for Zibaldone, the great idylls, the odes, songs and poems. It is too banal to define him as a pessimist, or to attribute his writings to a mere antithesis between nature and reason.

The erudite and ironic Leopardi deserves recognition for having offered a significant contribution on the human condition and its relationship with nature, which, as he writes in his latest poetic masterpiece “La Ginestra”, can induce men to unite to fight his threat to put an end to oppression and injustice in society. A generous utopia based on human solidarity.”
