“Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi airport outside the global trans-European transport network” –

The president of the Internal Areas commission: “A decision that disadvantages our territory and puts at risk the future development of a crucial infrastructure for the Campania Region”

Naples, 26 June – “The exclusion of Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi airport from the global trans-European transport network (TEN-T) is incomprehensible. This decision, which translates into a clear disadvantage for a crucial infrastructure of the Campania Region, is an act of political shortsightedness that puts the future development of the territory at risk. Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi airport is ready to open its doors with the first direct flight to Nantes, scheduled for 11 July.

This event marks a historic moment for the Province of Salerno and the internal areas, representing an extraordinary driving force for tourism and local commerce. The exclusion of the Salerno airport from the TEN-T network is a choice highly detrimental to the interests of our region. In this context, our airport will not be able to benefit from EU funding for trans-European networks, being able to rely exclusively on funds from the Italian State. This decision risks jeopardizing the development of an infrastructure that is essential for the progress of Campania”. Declares the President of the Internal Areas Commission and regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement Michele Cammarano.

“I invite the central government to intervene with the European institutions to reconsider this decision and recognize the strategic importance of the Salerno-Amalfi Coast airport for Campania and the entire South. Only through a shared vision and concrete commitment will we be able to guarantee a future of growth and development for our territory and internal areas. I will continue to closely monitor the European Union’s guidelines for the expansion of the trans-European transport network and – concludes Cammarano – to fight to ensure that the right resources are allocated to the strategic infrastructure of our region.”
