Caserta experiments with Sbriciola: two glass shredders in the city centre

One of the most widespread consequences of nightlife in urban centers is the accumulation and dispersion of waste. Among many, glass is the most abundant and dangerous, as well as expensive to dispose of. For this reason, the Municipality of Caserta has stipulated an agreement with Eco Sistem S. Felice srl for the free loan of two enormous shredders, shaped like glass bottles, with the allusive name: “Sbriciola”, outdoor model , also chosen by ANCI Campania.

In practice, the machine is capable of transforming glass containers, whether hollow or otherwise, into glass sand. This process, which takes place inside the machine – in total safety for people on the road – significantly reduces transport volumes with a parallel increase in storage capacity and consequent CO2 savings. Eco Sistem srl periodically collects the glass sand stored inside Sbriciola, treats the material and puts it back on the market for the most disparate industrial uses.

The project is experimental because we must wait for the response of the population in terms of cooperation: that is, the glass waste must arrive inside Sbriciola by hand of the people. For this reason, in this phase the two machines will be positioned in places that are usually crowded, namely one in Corso Giannone – near the new entrance to the Reggia – and the other in Piazza Gramsci, not far from the Giardini della Flora. In case of adhesion by the population, other shredders will be installed in the city.
