According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, around 158 thousand migrants landed in Italy in 2023, 50% more than in 2022 and over 130% more than in 2021. Migrant people, forced to leave their countries of origin, they face without certainty a tiring journey to reach Europe to live freely and not stop thinking about their future. Just like many young people from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iran and other at-risk countries who arrive in our country do every year.

The University of Padua faithful to its motto Universa Universis Patavina Libertas “freedom in its entirety, for everyone, at the University of Padua” claims several initiatives to welcome people with refugee status, asylum seekers and people fleeing their country. One of these is the program Students at risk through which the University, thanks also to the generosity of many donoroffers numerous scholarships every year.

L’meeting on June 27th it is therefore the opportunity to tell some true stories of young people on the run from their countries of origin due to conflicts, discrimination and limitations on freedom, but also of hope and redemption. These young people are aware of the fortune that the scholarship represents for them and, consequently, for their families and communities: a precious opportunity for redemption after troubled suffering.
