Agrigento, local public transport between critical issues and comparisons

AGRIGENTO – In recent days the mayor, institutions and unions have addressed – on several occasions – the issue of local public transport service citizen, following some inconveniences and disservices previously reported to the municipal administration.

The management of the public service was, in fact, primarily the subject of a comparison with the Municipality of Agrigentor in the offices of the vice mayor, Aurelio Trupia, which was also attended by the mayor Francesco Miccichè and the councilors Gerlando Principato and Carmelo Cantone, the architect Salvatore Di Salvo, as Rup, the manager of sector V, Alberto Avenia, of the Civil Protection, Attilio Sciara, the representatives of Tua, doctor Samuela Scelfo and engineer Riccardo Bigotti. The meeting also arose from reports of inefficiencies by the USB private work-local public transport.

Following the first meeting, Mayor Miccichè stated in a statement: “The local public transport constitutes a primary service for which we have never omitted attention and commitment to resolve any critical issues and inconveniences. Despite the formally extended invitation and requests for explanations made, no representative of the USB union took part in the meeting today. We express our regret for this absence, as we believe the contribution of all parties is essential for a constructive and transparent discussion. We reiterate our constant commitment to maintaining open channels of dialogue and collaboration and remain confident that more active participation can be ensured on future occasions. Our willingness to organize further meetings to explore the topics in question remains unchanged. We have been working for some time to complete the process relating to the new tender, faithfully adhering to the relevant community legislation. And the procedure will be concluded as soon as possible, in less time than in other Sicilian municipalities. Everything is focused on maximum transparency and coordination, to protect the quality of the service, the workers and the interests of the citizens”.

A few days later, also following these declarations, a meeting was organised new summit between the USB union and the Municipality just to delve deeper into the issue. “As in today’s specific case – declared the mayor commenting on the meeting with the USB – the action of the municipal administration of Agrigento is and will always be supported and oriented by consultation with social forces, so that every initiative and provision is shared as widely as possible, to protect and benefit the interests of citizens. it was a constructive and fruitful meeting. The union has presented its demands in a composed and exhaustive way.”

“I appreciated – continued Miccichè – the attitude of the USB delegation inclined towards dialogue and collaboration. We have listened to and taken on board the union requests. We have reiterated that the Administration is working on the tender procedure for the assignment of the local public transport service, strictly adhering to the European regulations of the sector and pursuing the essential objective of quality of service, the interest of workers and citizens. In this direction, the sharing of the participants in the discussion was maximum” concluded Francesco Miccichè.
