In the first round Vittoria Ferdinandi collected 40,925 votes, in the run-off she reached 40,696, losing just over two hundred preferences, demonstrating that those who had voted for her on June 8 and 9 returned to the polls on Sunday and Monday and put their ‘signature’ on their name again.

The difference, beyond the legitimate and natural insights, is all here: the people of the center-left have all returned to voting for her, those of the center-right have not. So much so that in the first round Margherita Scoccia had collected 40,323 preferences (about a thousand less than her lists), while in the run-off she put together 37,389, over three thousand fewer than those who did not return to vote for her.

The second round of mayors, on the other hand, is all about convincing those who had been there fifteen days earlier to return to the polls: Ferdinandi and the center-left succeeded, but his opponent did not. The number of blank and invalid ballots is also much lower than in the first round: the total is just over one percent, while in the first round it had almost reached three percent. In fact, there were 78,075 valid votes, equal to 98.91 percent of those who showed up at the 159 polling stations. And here too, the difference is evident: the turnout was not very low (almost 61 points compared to 65 two weeks ago) and unexpectedly higher than the 2014 run-off, when just over 50 percent returned to vote and a massive abandonment of the polls by supporters of the center-left.

How and where the former councilor for urban planning lost consensus can be seen from the in-depth analysis of the vote in the neighborhoods and towns. In essence, Ferdinandi confirmed herself in all the areas where she had already won in the first round: the historic center, Elce, San Sisto, Monteluce, many towns in the northern area, Ponte San Giovanni, Ponte Valleceppi/Casaglia, Ponte d’Oddi/Montegrillo, Pallotta, Fontignano/Mugnano, Collestrada. But she also overtook several times in areas that a fortnight ago had been the prerogative of Scoccia: it happened between Colombella, Piccione and Bosco, in Madonna Alta as well as in Prepo for example. But it drew in right-wing strongholds such as Ponte Pattoli, Santa Lucia, reducing the gap in Pianello and Ripa (from -300 to -200) or in Pila (from -200 to -90) and even in San Marco (from -300 to -200 preferences).
