“I am a working mother and, in mid-June, I learned that my son will not be able to attend school in July because they excluded us from the summer nursery call. Now I find myself with my son outside and I don’t know where to leave him, the dad and I work and we don’t know where to leave him”.
The late publication of the tender for the extension of the service in the nurseries of the Municipality of Fiumicino has raised controversy
The announcement for the opening of summer nurseries in Fiumicino has sparked quite a bit of controversy, with relative back and forth between the majority and the opposition. In particular, to discuss is the inclusion of private individuals in the service and the exclusion of children placed in affiliated nurseries. Some of the 19 families whose children, in 2023, were taken into the Il Girotondo farm in via Portuense contest this choice.
“This year we expected to return together with the municipal children to the summer nursery school, so in June we were confident that our children, in July, would remain in the nursery like the other children. However, when the summer nursery notice came out, we realized that the children in the affiliated nursery school were not among the possible beneficiaries of the service. -complains a mother- by agreeing to enter the agri-nido under the agreement, we left the reserves of the municipal nurseries where our children were already registered”.
“My daughter was second in reserve and would also have had some hope of entering the nursery where I had applied. However, to be on the safe side, I sent her to the nursery under the agreement, still paying the municipal fees and respecting the closures of the municipal schools because she was treated, to all intents and purposes, like a child enrolled in the municipal nursery.”.
The delegate for school policies of the municipality of Fiumicino, Roberto Tasciotti, has actually already given an initial response.
“He has only issued statements to you journalists, without giving us any response via email or PEC, at least until today -another mother protests- We also ask Tasciotti to open the call earlier, next year, to allow families to participate and not induce them to send their children to private nurseries”.
“We certainly ask to be treated, for all intents and purposes, as municipal workers and not as conventionally excluded, and we would like the place to be guaranteed not only for the current year, but also for subsequent years so that there is continuity to obtain, precisely, a little more protection and the recognition of the same rights as all other children” concludes, finally, another of the people involved in the protest.
