TERNI – «In one month, 28 boys and girls asked us for help. They wanted information so they could enter the community and start a new life. As for There are ten families experiencing drug addiction those who turned to listening center in Piazza della Pace».

Giampaolo Nicolasi, head of the Community Incontro structuredraws up an initial assessment of the activity of Sun refuge and it does so on the day in which the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is celebrated.

In front of the new listening center dedicated to addictions, housed in the premises of the Citadel of associations in Piazza della Pace, there is already a queue.

It opened a month ago, welcomes families and young people with addiction problems every Tuesday and Thursday and is an important point of reference for one of the most at-risk neighborhoods in the city.

«There are families who ask for advice on managing children who have fallen into the tunnel of addiction but above all boys and girls who would like to start a process of rebirth in the community» confirms Nicolasi.

They turned to the listening center young people aged 16 to 35 and most of them use cannabis and cocaine.

«In a constantly evolving scenario, what worries the Incontro community is the significant trend towards the consumption of psychoactive substances found in the 12-19 age group. Adolescents – says Giampaolo Nicolasi – show a considerable increase inuse of substances of all kinds, increasingly experimenting with synthetic opioids obtained easily on the market but also via the internet”.

In these hours the community with its mother house in Molino Silla di Amelia, founded by Don Pierino Gelmini, is busy with the initiatives promoted for the international day against drugs. “The annual report on addictions shows a continuous increase in the use of substances, with over 15 million young people between 15 and 35 years of age who use cannabis. The fact is that it starts earlier and earlier – Nicolasi underlines. Undersecretary Mantovano in these hours has underlined how the substance that thirty years ago had a low active ingredient today is a bomb devastating”.

The war against 950 new psychoactive substances whose composition and effects are unknown is unequal.

It can only be fought with widespread information on the territories.

«This trend must be stopped with targeted interventions to identify conditions of risk and vulnerability – insists Giampaolo Nicolasi – we must inform, raise awareness and fight fake news adopting effective forms of communication that can provide the necessary tools to understand the real risks associated with addictions. Incorrect or misleading information – he adds – deceives our young people, leading them inexorably towards addictions or the unaware and occasional assumption of lethal substances, as in the case of fentanyl which recently hit the headlines in the local news”.

The community does its part with it commercial spread on social channels to raise awareness and empower young people about the danger of fake news, convinced that the first form of prevention against addictions is correct information. In the video, shot in Molino Silla, some young people involved in the recovery process appear in the role of testimonials who took turns to “debunk” the false myths about substances and behavioral addictions.
