Occhiuto, with promulgation the Regional Council will discuss

‘My position is always consistent. I certainly don’t join the PD’

“The differentiated autonomy has yet to become law, in the sense that as soon as it is promulgated the Regional Council will obviously discuss it. I certainly don’t join the Democratic Party.”

This is how Roberto Occhiuto, president of the Calabria Region and national deputy secretary of Forza Italia, responded to journalists’ questions about whether he will challenge the bill on differentiated autonomy approved last June 19, before the Constitutional Court, as numerous Calabrian mayors are also requesting.

“I said publicly what I have always said in party meetings – added Occhiuto – I spoke publicly, taking responsibility for my role as national leader. I have always said it in absolute coherence and I invite you to also see the reports of the Conference of the Regions when differentiated autonomy was discussed for the first time. On that occasion I said that I had no prejudices towards differentiated autonomy on condition that historical expenditure was overcome. Even on that occasion I essentially said: what I have always repeated: no money, no party”.

When asked about the position expressed by the minister and leader of the League Matteo Salvini according to which the governor should have expressed his opposition to differentiated autonomy before the law passed, Occhiuto replied: “and what does Salvini know that I didn’t do it in the places where decisions were made, for example in my party?”.
