Flooding at the Rondò delle Valli: pipeline repaired, one lane reopened

Pipeline repair work completed which broke at dawn on Friday 28 June and flooded the Valli roundabout. A lane of the Circonvallazione in the direction of the Valli was reopened in the late afternoon and until Monday travel will be on a single lane. Traffic continues to be slow.

The breakage of the pipeline, which occurred around 4.57 am, made the stretch between the two impassable. between via Borgo Palazzo and the Rondò delle Valli. Therefore, cars will be banned from the Boccaleone viaduct and from Seriate towards the roundabout and the Seriana Valley.

The Dalmine Fire Brigade secured the road that connects the city of Bergamo and the valleys in the early morning. Access to the Rondò will remain closed until safety conditions are restored: the road will remain closed until late evening, Uniacque reports. The traffic police have also closed the Circonvallazione from 11:15 to those exiting the A4 toll booth.

Uniacque technicians are working to repair the broken pipe, also using an excavator. «A DN300 pipe broke on the Valleys ring road, at the intersection with Via Gleno and caused the flooding of the roadway and the surrounding area – they explain from Uniacque -. Uniacque staff intervened on site to verify the causes of the breakage and interrupt the flow of water: the operation required a series of complex technical maneuvers, as a result of which temporary turbidity phenomena in the water supply could occur in the surrounding area, due to the inversion of the flow of water in the pipes».

“To allow for the repair work, it was necessary to close the entire carriageway of the ring road in the direction of Gorle/Valli – continues Uniacque -. Since the road surface will have to be restored on both lanes. The carriageway has already been cleared of water and mud. Late on Friday afternoon the company informed that «the repair work on the pipeline has been completed» is that «one of the two lanes will soon be reopened of the Gorle/Valli road. Any inconvenience caused by lack of water pressure is being resolved.” The reopening took place around 6 pm. The Bergamo local police and the Bergamo Carabinieri were also on site to monitor the traffic situation.

The greatest repercussions on traffic are in the area of the Boccaleone viaduct: slowdowns and queues are reported from Seriate towards Bergamo. Long queues also on the interurban route towards the ring road. The ring road is still open and the traffic is intense but regular.
