Which companies can request reimbursement?
Small, medium and micro enterprises that carry out breeding activities for economic purposes in the Tuscan territory can apply for reimbursement. This category also includes professional agricultural entrepreneurs with sheep, goat, cattle, buffalo, pig, horse and donkey farms.
How to submit the application
Applications must be submitted electronically via the ARTEA information system starting from 20 June 2024. In order to submit the application, the company must have activated at least one of the following prevention measures:
- Anti-predation fences
- Shelter facilities
- Watch dogs
What is compensated?
The reimbursement covers 100% of the cost of animals killed by predators, calculated based on the market value of the animal raised, and any veterinary expenses for injured animals (documented with invoices).
Submission deadlines
- Damage occurring between November 1, 2023 and July 14, 2024 must be reported by September 16, 2024.
- Damage occurring between July 15 and October 31, 2024 must be reported within 60 days of the predatory event.
Damage assessment
The damage from predation will be assessed by the veterinarian of the territorially competent USL company, who will carry out an inspection and verify whether the death of the animal is actually due to the attack of a wolf or another wild predator.
Refund payment
Correctly submitted applications will be processed within 60 days of receipt.
How does the procedure change compared to the previous year?
Compared to the previous year, the procedure for submitting applications has been simplified, with the aim of making it more streamlined and accessible to interested companies. In particular, the need to submit a paper application and attach photographic documentation of the animals killed has been eliminated.

If you are the victim of an attack by a predator, it is important to report the event to the Tuscany Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA) within 48 hours of the incident. The report can be made by telephone at the toll-free number 800-562-250 or online on the ARPA Toscana website.
