The Uisp national cycling amateur road championship in Massa


Appointment in Tuscany on June 29th and 30th: participants will travel between 67 and 81 kilometers depending on their category

For the second time The Italian Uisp amateur cycling championship arrives in Massawhich will be run Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June. The championship is organized by the Lega Uisp Massa Montignoso ASD Versilapuano in collaboration with asd Apua Team, asd Velo Sport Casone and asd Velo Club Carrara. Three great clubs to organize two days of national level amateur cycling. For two days the streets of the cities of Massa, Carrara and Montignoso they will be invaded by two-wheel sports enthusiasts together with families and friends, who constitute a very important tool for promoting tourism in the area.

The two-day presentation took place at the Uisp Sport headquarters in the Oliveti area School Camp. The sports councilor of the municipality of Massa was present, Roberto Acerbowho brought the mayor’s greeting and focused on the importance of this sport for everyone, and representing amateur cycling clubs Arturo Alberti, Adolfo Casotti and Luciano Bellè. For me it is a prestigious achievement that repays the daily effort, sacrifice and commitment necessary to promote similar events. Situated at the foot of the Apuan Alps, approximately five kilometres from the sea, Massa is a city with very ancient originsbuilt on the remains of a Roman settlement. It was governed by Obertenghi and Lucchesi, by Malaspina and Cybo-Malaspina, by Napoleon’s sister and by the Este family, experiencing its maximum splendor when it was the capital of the Duchy of Massa and Carrara, an adjacent Tuscan town, with which it shares strong ties.

Categories admitted to the national competition organized in Massa are the Giovani 15-18, the M1, the M2, the M3, the M4 and the Elite category, which will have to complete a route of 81,500 kilometers, while the M5, M6, M7, M8, Elite Women, Women 1 and Women 2 will not cross the Salita della Foce, covering a route of 67,200 kilometers. The official start is scheduled for 3 pm on the first day and will involve the M5, M6, M7, M8, Elite Women and Women 1 and 2 categories, while the Youth 15-18, Elite, M1, M2, M3 and M4 will compete on the second day starting at 9.30 am.

The entire race route must be repeated seven times and will begin in Via Oliveti, continuing towards Via Dorsale, Via Marchetti, Via Aurelia, Via Catagnina and reaching the finish line. The first seven athletes in each category will be awarded on Sunday 30 June after the conclusion of the daily race.
