crash of an aircraft – Agenda Brindisi

This morning, Tuesday 25 June, a complex exercise took place in the port of Brindisi, part of the six-monthly ones envisaged by the “Emergency Plan for the rescue of an aircraft crashed at sea”, aimed at testing the level of operational readiness of everyone the operators who, based on their responsibilities, are called upon to deal with any emergencies of this type.
Under the coordination of the Operations Room of the Brindisi Coast Guard, a scenario was prepared which involved the simulation of a forced ditching of a Boeing 737 aircraft with 120 crew members which, following a Bird Strike during take-off, landed in sector “E5” of the Rescue Plan.
Having received the emergency call from the Control Tower, the Operations Room requested the immediate intervention of its CP 844 rescue boat, of the Fire Brigade in order to intervene with its own means for operations to put out any fires, as well as of divers and technical-nautical services (tugboats, pilots and moorers) for the recovery of shipwrecked people.

The training activity, carried out under the coordination of the Port Authority of Brindisi and concluded with a positive outcome, saw the preparation of a scenario which saw the synergistic use of all the institutional and private subjects involved and, through the simulated activity , verifying the adequacy of the responses in terms of speed of intervention and clarity of the procedures applied.
The exercise in question, in addition to testing the operational readiness of men and vehicles to deal with the emergencies mentioned above, made it possible to test the efficiency of the Aircraft Accident at Sea Rescue Plan planned for Brindisi airport. The Head of the Maritime Department, Captain Luigi AMITRANO highlights the extreme usefulness of these exercises and the synergistic use of all the actors involved in order to guarantee the protection of human life at sea.
