In the second round of the ballots, the Dems won in the three voting municipalities. The wide field works with Avs and M5S

Three out of three. Between reversals and Bulgarian percentages, the centre-left snatches the municipalities of Civitavecchia, Palestrina and Tarquinia at the centre-right. With a turnout in the three municipalities at 51.33%, PD and allies they repeat the positive results of the first round, when they had conquered Lazio Monterotondo, Cassino and Veroli, leaving only Tivoli to the opponents. The “wide field” worked in Civitavecchia, where the new elected mayor, Marco Piedibenebeat his competitor Massimiliano Grasso – supported by Fratelli d’Italia and Lega – with a difference of over two thousand votes: 54.48 to 45.52% for the dem candidate, supported by Avs and M5S. It is also a turnaround, given that Grasso started with a large advantage in the first round, but with a split center-right behind him, given that Forza Italia had proposed its own candidate. Also to Palestrina, province of Rome, the governing parties were divided and the Democratic Party conquered the city. Newly elected Igino Macchi, 73 years old, former social councilor in the Municipality, supported by dem and civic, with a clear 58.81 percent of the preferences, which surpassed the challenger Giuseppe Cilia who was stuck at 41.19 percent. Fi and Moderati had placed their bets on him, while in the first round the candidate of Lega and FdI was also in contention.

Record numbers in Tarquinia

He finally wins by a landslide Tarquinia – where the highest turnout was recorded at 61.12% – Francesco Sposetti. Numbers to be remembered for the Democratic Party with an overwhelming 70.09%, against the 29.91 of the outgoing mayor Alessandro Giulivi, the only candidate among the three municipalities on which the Lega, FdI and Forza Italia had jointly focused. But the 55-year-old Sposetti was also able to count on the alliance-laboratory Pd, Avs and M5S. «An extraordinary fact – he underlines with satisfaction Daniele Leodori, secretary of PD Lazio – which certifies two things. Where we administer, we do it well. The Municipalities voting where we were in the majority were confirmed in the first round and with overwhelming victories. Second: at the first regional test, after more than a year of right-wing government, the voters reject it. Let’s bring home 6 of the 7 municipalities over 15 thousand inhabitants to the vote. A great job by everyone.” «From this long electoral round comes a Democratic Party that is the cornerstone of the government alternative and a stronger centre-left throughout Italy and also in Lazio. A good governance front is emerging in the cities” the mayor’s comment Roberto Gualtieri.
